20 January 2011 - The document below (original in Hebrew and translated into English) sets out the current government policy regarding the employment of asylum seekers and the obligations of employers towards their asylum seeker employees. It is intended as an explanation for asylum seekers to present to employers.

In late November 2010, the Ministry of Interior began to mark visas with the statement that 'This visa is not a working permit'. Following the High Court's decision on January 20, the situation is now clarified. Until the planned detention camp for African asylum seekers has been completed (which is anticipated to be in mid-2011), employers will not be prosecuted or fined. Regrettably the High Court failed to rule in favor of giving explicit permission for asylum seekers to work. The new sentence will remain and no work permits will be issued to those holding the conditional release visas. However, it is clear that for now asylum seekers are allowed to work.
